History of Bonds Ranch
The land being developed into Chapel Hill has a history as rich as Texas itself. A history with vivid images of open prairies, Native American tribes, buffalo herds, heroes and western outlaws. A history that spans the centuries and is now being carefully created for future generations.
In the early days, the Comanche Indians hunted the plentiful buffalo on this land. Then as the generations passed and the west tamed, Fort Worth and Bonds Ranch gained prominence as a major player in the cattle industry. Back in the 1930's - when the original ranch was over 10,000 acres - the Bonds family became revered in its grazing land management and cattle raising skills - and its frequent Grand Champion steers at the annual Fort Worth Stockyards sale. The tough limestone soil of the ranch was high in calcium and perfect for grazing. Even to this day, the Bonds family is highly respected for maintaining the same quality of tall grass prairie land that the buffalo enjoyed so many years ago.
During World War I, Bonds Ranch once again played a significant role in history as both American and French-Canadian pilots held flight training exercises here, practicing bomb-strafing runs at in-ground targets And today, the ranch is rich with natural resources as hundreds of natural gas wells spot the land, reflecting Bonds Ranch’s deep character of providing a colorful history and untapped future.
